Si tratta di rocce maestose, uniche e rare, che sorgono in mezzo al mare della Sicilia nei pressi di Aci Trezza (Trizza, in siciliano), una frazione di Aci Castello, in provincia di Catania, e noto borgo marinaro che si affaccia sul mar Ionio. Questi mitici faraglioni, formatisi mezzo milione di anni fa a causa dell'attività vulcanica (non della furia ciclopica!), oggi costituiscono l'area marina protetta della Riviera dei Ciclopi. Questi isolotti dai nomi più disparati (Isola Lachea, Faraglione Grande, Faraglione Piccolo, Faraglione di Mezzo, Scoglio Monaco, la Longa, la Pitrudda, Testa del Mostro, Scoglio delle Cozze, Letto della Zita), divennero ancora più noti per aver offerto l'ambientazione del romanzo verista e Verghiano de "I Malavoglia", la sfortunata famiglia di pescatori Trezzani, le cui storie sono divulgate anche dal Museo Casa del Nespolo.
